Stash or Trash #3 – Intro!

Time for another round of Stash or Trash! If you have seen one of my previous posts you know what it’s all about. If not, Stash or Trash is a blog series where I pull out 10 makeup items from my collection that I haven’t used in a long time or ar unsure about if I want to keep or not, and test and try them for a few weeks or so to figure out if they are items worth keeping or not. Kind of a relaxed way of doing some decluttering or rediscover products I like and want to use more.

IMG_20190523_203637_428.jpg

This is the little pile I will go through the next couple of weeks, and I will do another post where I do a summary of what I decide to stash or trash. This time it’s a good mix of eyeshadows, lipsticks and face products.

IMG_20190523_203733_611.jpg

The eyeshadow palette is a limited edition palette I picked up on holiday in Italy many years ago. It goeas by the not so short name “Color Fever Must Have Eyeshadow Palette 02 Elegant Tones”. To be honest I think I have only used it once even though the colors are really pretty. I have no idea what I think about the quailty, but I aim to find out.

The single eyeshadows are from an indie brand called Fyrinnae. The shades are Rapunzel Had Extensions and Aztec Gold. The first being a beautiful pink with gold, and the second a green gold. Quite unique shades. I used to wear them a lot many years ago, but I havent reached for them for years. I want to test them out again to see if the quality is compatible to my current standards, because as my collection has grown over the years I have learned much more about what I think is good quality and what I think is not. I am excited to see how these hold up. The colors are lovely though!

The small mascara is a travel size from YSL I got in a kit ages ago. I havent even opened it, so now I want to see if it’s still any good. If so I should just use it up and get my moneys worth out of them.

IMG_20190523_203822_218.jpg

I also got a few face products going on! The NARS highlughter is “Satelite of Love” which was a limited edition. Not quite sure if it is supposed to be a blush or a highlighter. In my opinion it does not really work that well as any of those choices. Too little pigment to be a blush (at least for me) and it’s not really up to par with todays highlighters. I will give it one more try, but honestly I think I just hung on to it because it’s NARS, expensive and limited edition.

The blush is a H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blush in “Cherry”. I really enjoy the H&M blushes, they are surprisingly good, but I never reach for this because of the shade. I think it’s too dark for me. I will give it a few tries with a light hand and decide if I think I would reach for it again or if it will just drown in my collection as it has been for a while.

The highlighter “Wet Sand” from Everyday Minerals is actually very beautiful, but I never think about reaching for is since it’s this loose powder in an unpractical jar. I will see if I enjoy the formula enough to be worth it still. I can’t remember the last time I used it but it’s many years old and have been unused for almost as many years.

IMG_20190523_203853_301.jpg

Lastly a small selection of lipsticks. Again we have a H&M lipsticks, and again these are surprisingly great. Once again, as with the blush, the shade is the problem. It’s very bright and purple, and usually when I go for a bright lip I use reds. I will wear this a few times and see if I get used to it and would want to reach for it again. I am afraid it will make my teeth look yellow.

The two Kiko lipsticks are both the same Unlimited Styli lipsticks. I used them a bit when they were new, but I think I remember them being a bit dry. I will try them again and see if I changed my mind or if I will possably use them in combination with other lip products like a gloss.

I have the feeling I will be able to part with a few more items this time as well. For now I will test and try them out and when I made up my mind on all the items I will get back to you with a summary.

What are your decluttering tactics?

XOXO

Stash or Trash #2 – Recap!

Time to go through the products in my second stash or trash post to sum up what to keep and what to get rid of. I do these series to go through some of my stash I haven’t been using in a while and possably do a bit of decluttering.

IMG_20190226_154807_975.jpg

Here is an overview of all the products I added this round. I pick out 10 products I am not sure if I like, haven’t used in a while or just forgotten about to see if I will be able to get rid of some or if I possibly find a new favorite. Digging around in your old collection is so much fun too!

IMG_20190226_154959_615.jpg

First let’s start with some things I can se myself putting in the bin. The Dior Diorshow Mascara in shade 258 is a beautiful blue mascara, and originally it was nothing wrong with this mascara (the Diorshow mascaras are great!) but it’s completely dried out now and no use to me anymore. Instead I recently made and order with the blue Colourpop mascara, so I will happily add another blue one to my collection.

The Physicians  Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio “Glam Nude” is no good. The liner is not that pigmented and applied very uneven. So this one was also easy to let go of. I don’t need old products that don’t work!

IMG_20190226_154932_744.jpg

The  Cream Crush Long Lasting Color Eyeshadow pot was also a good product (I still have the product in other colors so I obviously like it) but at this time it is a bit on the dry side and I just never reach for this either. I am getting rid of this one too. Look at me decluttering stuff! (I am actually really bad at decluttering).

The Oriflame Giordani Gold Impressionism Eye Shadow Pencil in “Deep Emerald” and  “Sea Sapphire” I decided to keep. They are so so stunning, and the colors are very rich, and the pencils are really creamy. I had these for many many years but I never used them. Parts of the problem I think is that I kept them among my single eyeshadows, a drawer I rarely remember to even open so I just never think about these. But since these pencils not only work as eyshadows, but also as eyeliners I decided to keep them among my other colorful eye pencils and got a lot more use out of them. Besides they look stunning on the lower lash line so these are keepers!

IMG_20190226_154903_948.jpg

The Kiko Long Lasting Color Lip Marker in the shade107 (top) and 105 (bottom) on the other hand I am getting rid of. I realized why I never use them. They are patchy on the lips and makes them feel too dry. I tried using them with a gloss on top but even then they look streaky and uneven. Both of them are ready to be binned! Kiko makes plenty of great lipsticks so no use hanging on to these anymore. I don’t want streaky lips anyway.

IMG_20190226_155022_699.jpg

The Everyday Mineral Blush in “Memphis Rose” I thought would be too dark for me, but it actually looks really pretty. I was surprised by how much I liked it applied. On the other hand I don’t really think I would miss it, and I think if I put it back in my collection I would just forget about it again. A loose powder blush must be really something special for me to be bothered using, and even though this is pretty I will declutter this one as well.

The  NARS Orgasm Illuminator I have been using quite a bit lately. It gives a gorgeous natural flush with the iconic orgasm shade, and it’s such an easy product to work with. This one I can see myself reaching into quite a bit especially since I enjoy cream products a whole lot more lately, especially for summer. So this one can stay!

IMG_20190226_154838_881.jpg

Lastly, the product I struggled the most to decide upon. The NYX Ulitmate Bright palette was a well used palette a few years ago, and for being drugstore it’s not bad at all. But as my collection have been growing a lot over the years I’ve gotten so many great colorful mattes that I never reach into this. After using this a few times I realize I probably won’t reach much into it in the future either. The pinks and purples are not as good as I would like them to be. The main reason why I want to keep this palette is that I really love the lavender and turquoise shade. But after taking a quick look into my collection I realize I do have very similar shades I would rather use. So even though this brings back good old memories I decided to let go of it.

So to do a quick summary I decided to declutter 7 items and keep 3. Not bad at all!

Altogether in this series the counts are:

  • Decluttered: 12
  • Kept: 7
  • Makeup artifact box: 1

To clarify the last bullet point I made a box where I can store products that I don’t see myself using but for some reason or the other have a collectors value (mainly for being old and limited edition) and I want to keep these products in a separate place. The one item in the box is a very old and almost unknown Urban Decay palette I decided to keep during my first recap of stash or trash .

Hope you enjoy this series, and I am excited to soon start the third round!

Stash or Trash #2 – Intro!

You guys seemed to like the first blog post in this series. If you haven’t read it I will give you a brief summary. With these posts I aim to pick out 10 products in my collection. Things taht are old, or that I for some reason don’t reach for. After testing and trying each product I will then decide if I will keep it (Stash) or declutter it (Trash). Here are the 10 items I picked out for this round!

IMG_20190226_154807_975.jpg

Lot’s of different stuff here. Now, I am a person who has a very hard time decluttering things. I love makeup and I really don’t mind having a large collection, so I that cut throat decluttering that some people do where they go through parts of their collection and get rid of a whole bunch is not for me (although, it is indeed admirable). But this kind of post actually made me get rid of a few things last time, so just taking my time and using and trying before making a decision may be more of my style anyway. But let’s talk about the products one by one!

IMG_20190226_155022_699.jpg

I picked two blushes. One is Everyday Mineral Blush in “Memphis Rose”. I think this is slightly too dark for me and it does have chunky glitter. That’s not something I really love so I tend to not reach for this. I also find the loose formula to be a bit of a bummer. But I don’t actually remember how this even looks on the skin, so before making up my mind I have to try it and figure out how it looks!

The other is a NARS Orgasm Illuminator. I picked this up many years ago before I really got into cream blushes and I just forgot about it. I don’t think I have ever used it even! The Orgasm color is classic and I do like it, I also tend to really enjoy cream formulas at the moment so I want to give this one a try. I see myself using it as a blush though, not an illuminator.

IMG_20190226_154932_744.jpg

This Kiko eyeshadowis the same Cream Crush Long Lasting Color Eyeshadow pot that I had in my first Stash or Trash makeup post. Only this time the color is more fun (the shade number is 13). When I swatch it I think it feels a bit on the dry side so I am not sure how this would perform now. It’s a few years old after all.

Those two eyeshadow pencils are both from Oriflame. One is the Oriflame Giordani Gold Impressionism Eye Shadow Pencil in “Deep Emerald” , a beautiful true emerald green. The other one is Gold Impressionism Eye Shadow Pencil in “Sea Sapphire” which is a really pretty blue. I haven’t used these in ages. I just never think about reaching for them. They are just disappearing in my collection in a way. So now I will use them a bit and figure out what to do with them. Maybe they work as eyeliners and would be more used if I stored them among my other pencil eyeliners instead of among my single shadows and eyeshadow pots?

IMG_20190226_154903_948.jpg

Again, some more Kiko stuff! I remember I picked up these two, tried them, and then apparently never really reached for the  again. These are the Kiko Long Lasting Color Lip Marker in the shade107 (top) and 105 (bottom). I need to figure out what I think about these and if I want to keep them or not.

IMG_20190226_154959_615.jpg

That funky looking blue mascara is Dior Diorshow Mascara in shade 258. It’s a stunning blue, but to be honest it’s probably way behind expiration date. I rarely use it, so I don’t even know if it’s dry. If it sill works I will try to squeeze a few more looks out of it. But if it’s too dry I will trash this and probably pick up the blue Colourpop mascara instead.

The weirdly looking eyelinger thing is the Physicians  Formula Shimmer Strips Extreme Shimmer Kohl Kajal + Liquid Liner Trio “Glam Nude”. This is the black pencil in the trio. I have used the gold one quite a bit because it has a golden glitter liner, but this one I have just swatched. About time I try it and see if I will figure out a way to incorporate this into my routine, otherwise it can go because it’s not a particularly interesting piece to collect. So if I can’t make this work I think I can safely get rid of it.

IMG_20190226_154838_881.jpg

And finally I need to give this one a try again. I remember that I used to really like the NYX Ulitmate Bright palette some years ago, but the moment I got the Certifeye Tropical Wonders in my collection this one has been left forgotten in the drawer. I haven’t touched it for a couple of years despite using it quite a bit when it was new. Now I just believe I have so many other better colorful mattes in my collection so this one is just not reached for. I have to revisit and figure out what I think, because honestly I can’t really remember how the formula is even.

I am exited to test and try these things once again. I am hoping I will be able to declutter something. In a few weeks time when I have tried everything properly I will revisit each item and tell you which one made the cut and which ones I will departure with.

Stash or Trash #1 – Recap!

Time to go through all the products in my first post in the Stash or Trash series. If you have not read the intro I suggest you have a look. I explain the deal about this series in that intro.

IMG_20190226_154518_834.jpg

I have worked my way through all the products and now I made up my mind if I want to keep them or not. The products on one side of the palette are things I will keep, and the stuff on the other are things I will get rid of. Can you guess which side is which?

IMG_20190117_150523_395.jpg

Let’s just start with the eyeshdow palette, because I decided something special for that one. I tried it out, and the quality of the eyeshadow is really not good. I can tell you that a lot has happened with Urban Decay eyeshadows since this palette was released. It probably does not help that it’s old either. I decided to not keep this in my collection, but I wont get rid of it either. I decided to just store it in a box separate from my makeup collection. As a curiosity. I have several makeup items I think can go into this box eventually. It’s just that some things are so old that even though It’s not really usable anymore it’s fun to have. Imagine how fun this will be to pull out and have a look at in 5 years, or 10, or 20. So I made a makeup artifact box. For now a small one, but I have it dedicated to these kind of things that I don’t feel like I need to keep in my collection of makeup, but I still want to keep. Who knows, maybe one day I will do a blog post with all the makeup artifact box. This will be the first item I put in it.

So let’s talk about the things I will not keep.

IMG_20190226_154548_541.jpg

Hope Girl Illuminating Powder is just something I don’t understand. It’s a loose powder full of glitter flecks. They are too sparse to actually work as a highlighter, but as a setting powder it leaves you looking like a disco ball. It’s just not flattering either way and I don’t understand how it’s supposed to look good on the face. Yes, I could use it on my legs for instance, but I know I will never remember to do that. So this one is decluttered.

Everyday Minerals “Like Lady Bird Lake” is a nice enough blush, but not special enough I feel for me to reach for it. I am not the biggest fan of loose blush, and this one has tiny flecks of glitter in it as well. So this one also got a spot in the decluttered pile.

The Man ZI Miao Wine Lip Tint is really cute, but I got two others and as I recall they are not that different since they are tints. I think I will keep one of them because they are super cute, but I can let this one go and then decide which one of the others I will keep.

Kiko Long Lasting Cream Eyeshadow was just not for me. I am not the biggest fan of pink, and this one was a bit dried out and made my lids just very textured. I do like these eyeshadow pots from Kiko, they usually look good and stay really well, but this colors just did not work for me.

The Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liner I tried once but gave up. This is just too dried up, and I found it a bit poorly pigmented as well. In the bin with it!

IMG_20190226_154724_292.jpg

And then the things I decided to keep!

The L’Oreal Lip Paint Matte was something I remembered as a tiny bit drying, but when I used it again now I did not have the same experience. But the thing that made me make up my mind to keep it was the scent. It smells like strawberries!

That other lipstick with a unknown brand or name that I got as a freebee with an order and never used surprised me. It’s a very flattering and easy to wear red, that has a very decent staying power, feels comfy and fades away nicely. I did not expect much from this, actually I was convinced this was one of the things I would trash, but I ended up really enjoying it and can absolutely see myself reaching more for this shade! So it’s a keeper!

The Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Liquid Bronzer I used maybe 6 or 7 times during this testing period. It’s very easy to blend into the skin and gives a warm but natural bronzed look to the skin. A very natural looking product that was easy to work with. This will be perfect for spring!

lastly the Estee Lauder Pure Pops Cream Eyeshadow I ended up keeping as well. It does give a very nice sheen and color to the lid, and works nicely as a one-and-done eyeshadow for busy mornings, plus it really stays put all day. I just have to remember to use it.

So to make a summary of the first post in this series:

4 products are kept, 5 products are decluttered and one is put in my makeup artifact box!

I hope you enjoyed reading this, because I think there will be a new round of Stash or Trash coming soon. For someone like me who have a really hard time decluttering it’s very handy to do this because it will force me to go through my old stuff and really think about if I should keep them. If I turn out decluttering something then I managed to clean out some old stuff, and if I manage to rediscover an old product that is equally good! So I will for sure do another round soon!

What is your strategy for decluttering makeup? Do you have a hard time doing it, or are you able to be cut throat?

XOXO

Stash or Trash #1 – Intro!

I decided to start a new blog series, exciting! I figured, like many fellow makeup lovers with a larger collection, that I have a lot of stuff that I haven’t used for a very long time. Some of the things I have I haven’t touched for one year…or two. Some of my things I don’t even remember what I think about.

So the goal with this series is to pick out some products in my collection that I haven’t tried for a while, or things I don’t remember what I think of, try them out for some weeks and then decide if I want to keep them or not. A way of phasing out products I don’t like or use, and a way to rediscover fun things in my collection.

So with this intro I will present my Stash or Trash products and talk a bit about them. After some weeks I will do another post and go through each product, my experience with them and if I will keep them in my collection or get rid of them.

IMG_20190117_150232_481.jpg

I am hoping this will help me to either declutter a bit, or to just rediscover good products to use within my own collection. I have found plenty of gems when digging through my drawers so I do have hopes I can do that with this series. And honestly, I probably have some stuff that does not work for me or are getting too old that I need to get rid of.

IMG_20190117_150350_280.jpg

This Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Liquid Bronzer I think I have used once, several years back. I don’t remember at all what I think about it, so I want to use it a few times. If I don’t like this one I can see myself getting rid of it since it’s quite a few years old and I obviously never reach for it. But I will give it another chance to see how it looks and wears before making a decision. Maybe it’s the best thing ever and I just didn’t discover it!

IMG_20190117_150326_506.jpg

Hope Girl Illuminating Powder is one thing I picked up, meaning ordered online, but never used. Frankly I did not really realize how this looked before I got it. I would have never picked this up in a store to put it that way. It’s just too glittery to be a powder and to much of a traditional powder to be a highlighter, but I will test it out and figure out properly how it looks in the skin.

IMG_20190117_150304_230.jpg

L’Oreal Lip Pain Matte is also something I picked up to try, tested a few times but for some reason I didn’t love it and I just put it back in my drawer and forgot about it. Now it’s time to properly figure out what I think about this formula. I have way too many reads to keep one with a formula I don’t like because it just will never be used. Time to figure out my final thoughts!

IMG_20190117_150545_668.jpg

This one is quite random. It’s a lipstick with a unknown name and brand that I got as a free gift with an order a while back. I just swatched it, but never used it. The thing with this is the same as with the L’Oreal lip paint. I have too many reds to keep one I don’t like wearing. Problem is I’ve never tried. Maybe this is the best thing ever! I have yet to find out.

IMG_20190117_150523_395.jpg

Can you believe Urban Decay palettes used to look like this? It does not have a name on it so I don’t know what it’s called. It’s probably way too old. I also have at least 4 of these shades in other palettes, so I am ready to declutter this unless I fall in love with it when I try it one last time. It’s also kind of tempting to keep it just for the sake of it. I mean, who has a old palette like this? It’s kind of a collection item? What would you do? Keep it as a relic or put it in the bin? I have to try it once more before making a decision.

IMG_20190117_150415_887.jpg

I bought a six-pack of tiny little lip tint wine bottles a few years back. They are so cute, but I just never reach for them. I think I need to rediscover this formula, and maybe that will make me start using them again!

IMG_20190117_150500_300.jpg

This Estee Lauder Pure Pops Cream Eyeshadow is also a forgotten old thing. I remember I used to use it a bit when I first got it, but honestly it’s been forgotten about for quite some time. I was not sure if it was still good, but the swatch look fine. I am ready to test this out and see if I can see myself reaching for it a bit more often. If not I should jsut get rid of it since it’s not exactly young anymore.

IMG_20190117_152952_871.jpg

Can you believe this is my first Smashbox product? It’s way past expiration date, but I stick to disinfecting my stuff and if it feels and smells good I am fine using it. I am not a pro and only use it on myself after all. I also drink milk after the expiration date and that’s always worked for me. So I like to take chances! This Smashbox Waterproof Shadow Liner in the shade Starstruck haven’t been used all that much lately. I am not even sure if it’s dried a bit. I will use it as a shadow base a bit before I make up my mind.

IMG_20190117_152935_889.jpg

I got heaps of these Everyday Minerals mineral blushes that I picked up way back when loose mineral makeup was so popular (those where the time for messy bathrooms I ‘ll tell you!). This is the shade “Like Lady Bird Lake”. I got several more shades, but I think I will just pick out those that I really really like to keep, because I almost never reach for loose powder blushes. So I really should only stick to the ones I really like. I do like this, but I am not sure if I like it enough. But I will keep you updated!

IMG_20190117_153017_427.jpg

The last item this time is a Kiko Long Lasting Cream Eyeshadow. This is a light shimmery pink. Which I’ve never used. So I decided to throw it in this rounds Stash or Trash to figure out if I think I will use it a bit before it dries up, or if I think it’s time has come.

And that’s all ten products I picked up this round. Now I will have some weeks to test and try everything, and I will do a roundup post with the results of what gets stashed back in the drawers and what gets trashed!

Do you have any fun strategies to rediscover or declutter things in your own collection?

XOXO
