Colourpop Perception Palette – Review & Swatches!

Perception was a palette I was drawn to immediately. Just a well composed palette with plenty of both neutrals and colors. Something you can do anything with. I don’t know who Shayla is (Should I? Have I’ve been living under a rock?). But usually I find the Colourpop collabs to be quite good, so I jumped into it.

The design of the palette is beautiful with black, purple and gold pattern. It is a bigger sized palette with 16 shades, but the shades are the same size as their regular 12-pan palettes. The palette also hold a mirror of decent size, you could easily do your makeup with it, so it has a bit of weight to it. Packaging is still slim and easy to store, but the slightly bigger size makes it a bit less practical to throw in your travel makeup bag compared to the smaller 12-pans which are a perfect size for traveling in my opinion. Does not really matter to me, I don’t travel that much and when I do I have plenty of palettes to choose from.

When you open the palette the obvious reason why I had to pick this palette up appears. The shades range is so beautiful! And there are colors! Not only a neutral palette with a pop of color, but there is a nice selection of both neutrals and colorful options.

There is a nice selection of nice gold, taupe and copper metallic shades that all work very well for more neutral looks. But, don’t be fool. they are intense metallics and can for sure add quite some drama if you want. If you feel like being more daring in your color choices you got metallic green. blue, pink and even a brown-teal duochrome. The selection has such a nice variety of colors that you really get a lot of choices and a bunch of possible looks. One of the best things about this palette is that you got so many different color choices.

But the most important thing, how is the quality? As always the metallics are impeccable. Colourpop really know how to make rich, pigmented and smooth as butter metallic shades. With 9 out of 16 shades being this formula you already know this is a good quality palette. The Colourpop mattes are also very good, and they are no exception in this palette. There are 4 mattes in total. Personally I would love to see at least one more. I think if this palette lacks one thing it is a medium or dark cool-toned or neutral black to pair with the green, blue and duochrome because in my opinion those very warm mattes dont go that well with those shades.

Then the two last shades are in my least favorite formula. The matte base with glitter. Stallion is a dark navy matte blue with flecks of blue glitter, and Shade is a plum matte with pink glitter. Even though I have to admit I was pleased with how Stallion looked on the eyes, I am still not a fan of this formula and would prefer them to be mattes or metallics instead. I guess that only 2 out of 16 shades were not complete hits for me overall is not bad.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely! My favorite thing about this palette is still that there are so many different colors in it. Also, the fact that there is a lot of shades in that beautiful metallic formula does not hurt either. So once again Colourpop released a hit!

Do you have this palette? What are your opinions?

Makeup Hauls of July 2018 – What Did I get?

I got a lot! Much of it was ordered in the month of June, it just takes forever in shipping to get here. But I haven’t been completely innocent in July either, so I have drawer full of goodies I need to test out and review for you. And I am so excited because I really believe I picked up a few gems here and there. So let’s get to it!

First some skincare items from The Ordinary. I become more and more a fan of this brand the more I try it. Good quality skincare for a wallet friendly price. I picked up the Lactic Acid 10% + HA because I already tried this, enjoyed it, and needed a repurchase because I am almost out. I am also always in need of a good skin moisturizer and decided Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA cream would be suitable to test out. I also picked up two of the Caffeine Solution 5 % + EGCG eye serum. One to keep in my bathroom for my bedtime routine, and one to keep at work for my morning routine (I run to work every morning and get ready there). Finally I also got the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + BA as a hydrating booster. Always feels good to stock up on some skincare!

All these goodies are from BeautyBay. You probably know by now that I collect the Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes and I would like to keep them all one day. I am slowly working my way to my goal and I usually pick up one palette each month lately. This month I got the Saharan, and looks how pretty it is! I picked up the two shades from the Jeffree Star Summer collection that tempted me the most namely “Cherry Wet” and “Coral Fixation”. The MakeupGeek single shadows are “Cocoa Bear” and “Flamethrower”. I love MakeupGeek shadows and like to pick up a shade here and there-

These Milani Rose Powder Blushes has been around forever, and have probably been on my wish list for just as long. Finally I got around to it. This is the shade “Coral Cove”.

This Becca Gradient Sunlit Bronzer in the shade “Sunrise Wave” I’ve heard so many good things about. And I do love a glowy bronzer so I decided to give this a go. Besides I want to try more Becca products after falling in love with their Apres Skis Face Palette. So I am happy to add this to my collection!

For the first time ever I decided to dive into Violet Voss eyeshadows with the Hashtag palette. So many pretty colors, so I can’t wait!

I am also a big fan of Zoeva and I think the brand is so under rated. I promised myself to pick up more of their face trios because the two I already have are very good. So this small pencil brush and the Sweet Glamour Blush Palette are now a part of my collection.

Speaking of Jeffree Star, I also got the Blood Sugar Palette (finally!). Look at all the pretty reds! And the packaging is so retro cool!

And since I was already on the Zoeva website it didn’t hurt to pick up the Artisto Eyeshadow Palette and Artisto Blush Palette. I think these look so stunning, and the Zoeva palettes are so slim and handy to collect!

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick have been my favorite liquid lipstick formula for lipstick that dry down completely ever since I picked up my first one around a year ago. I wanted to pick up some of his classic nude shades for everyday wear and got “Celebrity Skin” and “Androgyny”.

I also added some more Smashbox items to my collection. This brand is really growing on me. From having just a few products from the brand a while ago I have now tried quite a few different things that I really like. I had to get one of the rose highlighters from the Smashbox X Vlada collection. I had my eye on the gold one by this was the only one I could find in store where I live. So the “Prismatic Petal” it is! Very beautiful looking indeed!

I also love love love the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipsticks. They are a serious competitor to the JS ones! So I picked up another shade called “Bawse”. A beautiful red!

The Smashbox Cali Contour was also too pretty to pass on. It looks really good for my skin tone because I think I will get use out of every shade in this palette. And I quite like face palettes now (I didn’t use to before) but I don’t have too many so it actually feels good to get some more face palette options.

God some essential items too!

The BOMB Cosmetics Strawberry Fields Body Polish I picked up because I had a body scrub from them in another scent that I really really enjoyed! So I was tempted to pick up some more products from them and ended up with this. Would you like to read a review about them?

The Dove Go Fresh Deodorant and Batiste Dry Shampoo Tropical are just standard items. We all need deodorants and dry shampoo right?

One of my favorites things I picked up this month! The Jeffree Star Thirsty palette. Did not have any time to play with this yet, but I did some swathes and those shades in the middle row swatch incredible. Can’t wait to wear them! Also, does not this palette just scream summer?

I didn’t need any more blushes, especially since I am working and working on hitting pan on one that is never ending. But Tarte had free international shipping and I am weak. Still very happy to add “Blush Bliss Blush Palette” to my collection. Love Tarte blushes anyways!

As usual I added the Liveglam Kiss Me Liquid Lipsticks for July t my collection. I already have a review out if you want to have a read.

No month without a Colourpop order right? But who doesn’t love cheap and good. I got the Sol and Mar eyeshadow palettes from their summer collection, together with all the three Ultra Blotted Lips “Vitamin C”, “Soda Pop” and “Ocean Ave”. The blotted lipstick formula is one of my favorites from Colourpop! They looks so flattering and very wearable.

Also the MorpheMe Brush Subscription arrived, but I exchanged one of the brushed for an eye brush. They send out waaaaay to many contour brushes, and I never use those, but luckily you can exchange them.

I also got the MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish in “Whisper of Gilt” and  MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in “Nuanced”. To me MAC will always be this classic iconic brand and I am always happy to collect more of their pieces.

I did not get all these MAC eyeshadows, but I finally got around to pick up the extra empty palettes and inserts to start organizing and build up my collection a bit. I used to just keep them in two full palettes without inserts but now they are more sorted and looks more tidy. I am thinking about just picking up a new shade here and there and in the end have 60 single pan shades. A bit to go still.

I liked the first Milani Powder Blush so much that I picked up another shade. This time  in “Blossomtime Rose”. They are just soo pretty!

And Nabla Cosmetics is a band I really really like., so when they came out with cream highlighter and blush in a stick form I had to pick them up. Perfect for summer! The shades are “Surreal” and “Maybe Baby”.

The Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipsticks are in the shade “Stone” and “Talk is Chic”. I only had one of their lipsticks form before “Berry Me 2” but I wanted to test out the formula properly.

The Makeupgeek eyeshadows are “Jester” and “Wistera”. Again, I am always happy to add some more single pans form Makeupgeek to my collection because they are still some of my favorites!

The only thing I have ever tried form Inglot is their single pan shadows, but the packaging and colors of the Inglot X Jennifer Lopez collection sucked me in. So two lipstick shades in the colors “Hibiscus” and “Besame”, and the Illuminator Face Eyes Body in “Livin The Highlight” (Yes, I got a loose powder highlight!)

Then I walked by a L’Oreal sale and this happened! I never intended to pick up the Cherry My Cheri palette, but the discount was very favorable. the Back To Bronze I’ve heard so many good things about, and I swatched the La Vie En Glow highlighter palette and found that the first shade was unique enough to my collection to pick it up. Also I always need a mascara and picked the “Volume Million Lashes”, unfortunately I came home only to discover that it was brown, and you are not allowed to return opened makeup here so I guess I am stuck with eyelashes aka 90’s style for a while. Well, at least I have been there before! It was all at a good discount so I got a lot for my money anyway.

It was not the only things I picked up from L’Oreal. I snagged thid Life’s A Peach Highlighter and I have been loving it! I also got the Glow Mon Amour Liquid Highlighter. The Lipstick is from H&M own makeup line in the shade “Cream Chestnut”. These lipsticks are so underrated!

My final purchases made was these splurge items! The hourglass Strobe Lighting Powder in “Brilliant Strobe Light”, and Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter. I better be glowing after this (and I am, they are both tested and loved!).

As you can tell my test out drawer is now filled up, and I have so so much to test, try, play with and review. Luckily I will have plenty of time to do so in August, and I am excited to share some looks and reviews of these things sometime soon!

Did you pick up anything fun in July? Any purchase plant for August?

Colourpop Fame Eyeshadow Palette – Review & Swatches!

Finally someone released a cool-toned neutral palette! I bet so many have just been waiting for a release like this. The last couple of years a warm toned neutral palette seems to be on the top of every brands release list, and many (including me) have been waiting for a cool toned neutral palette.

That’s why I purchased this palette immediately. Not because I don’t have any cool toned neutral palettes. I can mention Urban Decay Naked 2, Tarte Tartelette and Zoeva En Taupe just from the top of my mind, but I kind of wanted to support that a brand released a coll-toned palette.

Looking at the packaging it does not look like it would be a cool toned palette. The outside looks like it should be filled with pinks, burgundies , peaches and purples, but when you open it you find a surprisingly neutral range of eyeshadows.

This one is bigger than the usual 12-pan with it’s 16 shadows. The shadows are still pretty small, and the packaging slim so even though there is a large number of shades the palette does not appear too bulky or large.

This is however, in every way, a neutral everyday palette. There is not really too much exciting to do here. But the palette is perfect for simple everyday looks, and to be completely fair here there are a couple of matte shades to deepen up the look and add some drama. I am not complaining though. Since my collection lacks a lot of cool toned palettes having a nice everyday option for work is completely fine. But I do hope Colourpop would release a cool toned palette with more daring shades. I mean there are so many taupe, purples, olives and greens that could make a very exciting cool toned palette, so please Colourpop, keep the coolness coming!

The quality is on point! I have mentioned this over and over again, but I guess good things can’t be mentioned enough. I LOVE Colourpop metallic formula, and there is some really nice ones in this palette. The mattes are also great, buttery and blend-able. The pigmentation is on point as always, even “Celeb” which is a very pale pastel pink, has good payoff. There is not a single bad shadow in this palette.

If I should point my finger at something it would be that there could have been much more variety in the shades. Even though “Razzle”, “Stardom” and “Clubhouse” are a bit different, they are still just three typical crease shades that honestly look strikingly similar on the eyes. I think they could have put some medium toned browns there instead and be better off, or a medium tones metallic, because there are an extensive amount of light ones, that also can look very similar on the eyes. I think this palette could have easily been a 12-pan and you would not miss a shade, because as soon as they get on your eyes they almost look like dupes. So not the best job in creating variety with this palette, which is surprisingly because I usually like Colourpops palette composition and for the most part find them very cohesive and thought through. This one still has a way to go.

With that said I can’t wait for my summer tan to wear off so I can put this in my monthly makeup basket and really spend some time to enjoy this cool toned neutral beauty, because the shade selection is perfect for everyday looks.

Althouth the color selection could have had more variety, the quality is on point and so is the price. If you were looking for a neutral cool toned palette for daytime looks this is absolutely a good choice!

What do you think, are you happy to see more cool toned palettes around, or are you still more into warms?

Morphe Brontour “Celebutante” – Review!

I immediately loved the idea of it when I saw this release. A contour powder and a bronzing powder all in one compact with a split pan. Such a nice way to keep both products in your makeup bag in a handy little compact!

I picked out the shade “Celebutante” because I figured it would work for my Nordic pale skin, but they had quite a few options in their shade selection.

This is my first Morphe face product I’ve tried. Actually , I have never been that big on Morphe products. I only own the Jacklyn Hill palette (which I love) and some brushes. Other than that my experience with the brand is not that extensive, so I had no idea what to expect.

Packaging is a sleek black plastic compact. It does not feel expensive. but it does not have an overly cheap feel to it either. Just a regular compact. It does hold a mirror, which in my opinion is way to small to use when applying bronzer or contour, but I guess many people will still appreciate that feature.

I am so happy with this! The color works well for me. The contour is neither too warm or too cold. I can use this in winter at my palest, but I can also use this in summer if I build it up. A nice all year product for me. The bronzer shade has some glow to it. It is not shimmery or glittery but give a nice healthy luminous glow to the skin. I use the contour shade to contour my cheekbones, jawline and temples, and then I brush the bronzer on top with a slightly smaller brush. I am loving how good this looks!

The pan is a regular powder compact size with 8 g of product, 4 g of each. The half sides are sliiightly to small for a brush to pick up just one shade, but they go so well together that it does not matter if you get a tiny bit of bronzer on your contour or vise versa. It also becomes a slightly darker bronzer if you swirl the two shades together.

Application goes like a dream. It applies very evenly and it blends out easily so it is very user friendly and I don’t feel I have to be overly careful or posses some magic blending skills to make it work. Just a solid good contour and bronzer duo I could highly recommend!

Have you tried this? What are your thoughts?

Colourpop Fame Eyeshadow Palette – Makeup Looks!

I guess I thought the same as everyone else when this was released “Finally a cooltoned neutral palette!”. After seeing one warm tones with pops of orange and reds being released one after another it was nice to see something neutral but still different.

I picked this up immediately just for the excitement of it being cool toned. But when I got it in the mail and opened it I felt it was a bit lackluster. I think a lot of the shades look similar, and I was wondering how I could make a makeup look post with just a bunch of similar neutral shades.

So, yeah! The palette is super cool-toned and super neutral. Some of the shades look a bit similar as well, but I think I got to show off a few options of how to use it here.

It is a pretty palette for simple everyday looks though, and I will have a review up shortly as usual. So keep your eyes peeled if you want to know more in detail of this palette!

Did you pick it up?

Liveglam Kiss Me Liquid Lipstick Subscription – July 2018!

My July subscription package arrived late in the month again, and I barely got time to squeeze in some testing time before the month is over (Luckily as a member you can buy or trade for old releases, so if you see something here you like they are still possible to get a hold on).

This month we got some fun summery shades. Two of them with their regular liquid lipstick formula which is usually light-weight, pigmented and with fairly good staying power. We also got one gloss this month. As always they all smell soooo good!

Usually the bundle holds a theme and this month “Let’s Get Hauti” collection has an obvious marine theme with lipstick names as “Slaylor”, “Nauti” and “Yachtie”. The shades are not very marine though but the bright pink, neon pale coral and iridescent gloss are a fun and bright collection nevertheless.

As usual I go through the shades one by one. I like to do that because there is some inconsistency in the formula so I would just like for you to know which one worked for me and which ones did not. Secondly I like to go in depth about the colors and how I find them. These colors, even though they are pretty and I can totally see how people would want to wear them, are not exactly my cup of tea. I am not sure if I will get used to them or not. But lets take them one by one.

Slaylor is a intense medium toned barbie pink. The shade is actually kind of cool and I like how it looks, but I find pink to be a bit of a scary color. I love nudes, mauves, reds, oranges and even browns, but fore some reason I have a hard time with pinks (unless they are nudes then we are good). It is a cool color though. It is very very bright though, so it is not for the faint of heart. The longevity is about 3-4 hours (including snacking and drinking) but the brightness of the color makes it very obvious that it has faded. It gives that butt-hole effect that I am not a huge fan of, and I can’t image too many other people are either. With a gloss on top it fades much nicer, off course sacrificing a bit of the longevity on the way, but with this shade I prefer it. The Kiss Me liquid lipsticks are usually very easy to apply anyway, and I rarely need a lip liner or more than a minute so reapplying is not a big deal. I definitely prefer this shade with a gloss!

Nauti is the other matte liquid lipstick of this bundle, and I thought it would be a nice nude coral on me. But this is intense! It is so neon, and a bit too pale for me, so it just looks super weird. I can imagine this being really cool on someone with super pale skin, but on me it just looks all kinds of wrong. The color just does not work for me. As with the “Slaylor” shade, the brightness makes it way too obvious that it is fading, so it works better with a gloss (and will maybe tone it down a bit as well). But, if I made an ombre lip with Slaylor all over the lips and Nauti in the center I really liked the looks of it!

Yachtie is the gloss in this bunch. The formula is lovely. It feels almost balmy, and has a nice slip without being goopy or sticky. Just a nice, comfy gloss. The color is a very pretty pink iridescent with a blue shift. I do like it, but I am still a bit disappointed, because the swatches on the Liveglam Instagram page made it look sooo much more intense. This one is just a very sheer version of that swatch. Still a pretty gloss though, and it does match very well with the other shades in the bundle.

All in all, the quality of the bundle is decent, but even though the colors are pretty I don’t think I will be reaching for these shades that often. That’s the thing with these subscriptions though. Not all shades will be your new favorite, but at least they are fun trying out. And who knows, maybe I discover that I really like something I originally would not try.

Just another empties post!

My pile of empties creates a constant source of material for these posts. And I am always behind. But they are fun to make, and seemingly fun to read for many of you. So here goes another one!

I got some doubles here, and then a bit of everything. Some good, some bad, some makeup, some hair care and some of my highly appreciated Haus Of Gloi Pumpkin Butters off course!

Let’s start with the doubles!

#77 Dove Summer Revived Body Lotion With Self-Tanner: This was a mistake. I did not realize it was a gradual tanner. And I picked up 4 of them at once. To bad the actual tanner is horrid. If used several days in a row you build up a completely orange tan, that does not sit very well. So it is rubbed off partially on leaving me both orange and patchy. What a joy!

Luckily the tanner is very gradual so if used only once or twice a week it does not matter. Still, will not repurchase.

#78 Dove Summer Revived Body Lotion With Self-Tanner – With soft shimmer: This is the same as above, only worse because it is shimmery. Not buying again for sure.

#79 Redken Frizz Dismiss Smooth Force Lightweight Smooth Lotion Spray: This is a holy grail product that I use every day and I have been for years. Keeps the frizz away and makes my hair nice and smooth and shiny without making it feel heavy. This is just a staple in my everyday routine. Will repurchase this over and over again!

#80 Redken Frizz Dismiss Smooth Force Lightweight Smooth Lotion Spray: Still a favorite!

#81 Haus Of Gloi Pumpkin Butter – Imp: My always much loved pumpkin butters! I will never stop using these either. They are and always will be highly treasured. This scent is very sweet and citrusy, almost like candy. It is a bit too much on the candy-like side. I do like it though, it is just not my favorite and Haus Of Gloi has such an incredible large range of scents that I only need to repurchase those I truly love and still have my bathroom shelves filled. I may pick up this scent in the future, but there is no rush. I have plenty I like a bit more.

#82 Haus Of Gloi Pumpkin Butter – Blood Orange Marshmellow: Sweet, heavy, delicious scent. To me this is perfect when  I crave something sweet in winter. I have backups of this already.

# 83 Adopt Eu De Perfume – Aquatique: This was in my project pan, and I had about 20 % left when I dropped it on the floor and broke it! It was a simple aqua scent. Very uncomplicated, and even though it was smellt good it was a bit too simple for my taste. Mote of a lightweight teenager scent I would say. I at least would have adored this as a teenager. It did not last very well on my skin either. A few hours and I could not smell it any more. I will not but it again.

#84 – L’Oreal Mega Volume Miss Baby Roll Mascara: There is nothing mega about the volume this gives. On me they gave very natural lashes. Did not give much length or volume at all, and did not really separate the lashes. They quickly became like short spider legs if I tried to build it up. Worked best for me with just one of two light coats, but it completely lacked that wow factor. Will not but again.

#85 L’Oreal Brow Artist Xpert Brow Pencil: This one I quite like. It has one of those bigger square pencil shapes and filling in goes very fast. It is a bit unprecise so maybe not the best choice if you want something to make hairlike strokes with, but just for filling in the brows it works great.

Did you finish something fun lately?

Lethal Cosmetics Eyeshadows – Review, Swatches and Makeup Looks!

I have been thinking for a while that I wanted to incorporate reviews of smaller makeup brands on this blog. For once I think it is really fun to discover something new and special that not everyone else raves about. The other thing is that there are so many small businesses with hard working passionate people behind it, and I want to highlight more products from these kind of brands.

So a while ago I started looking into indie brands with eyeshadow pans I potentially wanted to collect. I found three brands to test out and Lethal Cosmetics was one of those three. I picked up the Alchemy Collection, containing 6 square shaped eyeshadows to start somewhere. The brand is vegan, cruelty-free and have a range of eyeshadows, liquid lipsticks and magnetic palettes. A small but nice selection.

The eyeshadow collection has three shimmers and three mattes. The shades names form left to right is, top to bottom is: Unity, Aether, Spirit, Transmutation, Calcination and Arsenic. I find the collection to be a bit vampy and edgy, and I am particularly drawn to Unity and Spirit.

I did a few makeup looks to test every shade on my eyes, and came up with these two. All products are listed underneath.

  • Lethal Cosmetics Eyeshadows: Transmutation, Unity, Spirit, Aether and Arsenic.
  • Mac Paint Pot – Blackground.
  • Maybelline Master Drama Kohl Pencil – Ultra Black.
  • Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24 H – Black.
  • Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown.
  • Zoeva Brow Spectum – Bro 70, Bro30.
  • Eylure x Vegas Nay Fiercely Fabulous Lashes.

  • Lethal Cosmetics Eyeshadows: Aether, Transmutation, Calcination.
  • Maybelline Master Drama Kohl Pencil – Ultra Black.
  • Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24 H – Black.
  • Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
  • MakeupGeek Full Spectrum Eyeliner Pencil – Nude.
  • Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown.
  • Tarte Shape Tape – Fair Neutral.
  • Zoeva Brow Spectum – Bro30, Bro40.
  • Eylure x Vegas Nay Fiercely Fabulous Lashes.

I am quite happy with how they performed. The mattes were pigmented and very easy to blend so they performed well on the eyes. The downside was that I experienced a bit of kickback in the pan especially with “Transmutation”. Not a big downside to me personally but worth mentioning if that it something that may bothers you. It does mean that they will be a bit waist-full and you can experience some fallout, but it did not seem to have any negative effect on the performance otherwise. I find that sometimes very dusty shadows can also have some problems attaching to the eyes, but in this case I think they performed well. So if you generally don’t mind loosely presses shadows (like those in ABH Modern Renaissance for instance) then you should not have a problem with these either.

The texture of the shimmer shades are quite dense. I actually first learned about this brand by seeing it on another Instagram account called Ma.Ry.Na_ (If you like to see some beautiful creative looks than you should definitely check her out) and I was sold when she told me that these shadows reminded her of the Juvia’s Place eyeshadow formula. I love that formula so anything similar is bound to be good. And I think she is absolutely right! They are quite dense in texture but very rich and pigmented. You just have to use a tint bit more pressure with the brush if you want full intensity just like I have to do with the Juvia’s Place formula, but the payoff is intense.

I found that I had to do a bit more work with Spirit though. It definitely worked best with a damp brush, and needed just a little more layering to get full payoff, but it was absolutely possible to get there. It still works, and you still get a nice payoff, but the other shimmers are much more smooth and does not at all need a damp brush.

On thing worth mentioning is the scent. These guys are scented, and in contrast to all those peach and chocolate smelling products, this has a floral perfume scent. It is quite strong. I personally enjoy the scent, but since it is so strong (and a quite potent scent I must add) I can see why some may have a problem with it.

But the overall, judgement is that the shadows perform nicely. I am intrigued by the brand and will for sure pick up more shades, especially of the wonderful shimmer formula! If you are looking for a fun, smaller indie brand to support they are absolutely worth a shot!

Juvia’s Place The Douce Palette – Review & Swatches!

This palette just scream spring doesn’t it? The lovely pastels and shimmers are just THE spring shades in my opinion. Especially that green and those gorgeous pinks!

After falling so much in love with the Magic Palette by the same brand I got determined to collect every single palette I could get my hands on (you can read the review and see the 10 makeup looks I did with it if you want to know more about this stunner of a palette). Obviously The Douce had to be the one to add to my collection this spring because of the shade selection.

The packaging it true to Juvia’s Place unique style, and I have to say this is one of their most beautiful ones. The pan size is large. And the palette itself is the same size as Zulu and The Festival Palette if you are familiar with those. If not, them think of Sugarpill, because they are about the same size. So being a very reasonably priced palette this gives a lot of product for a low cost.

The inside is just as stunning as the outer packaging. The selection of shades are mostly browns and pinks with a pop of metallic grey, green and a gorgeous duochrome with a pink and lilac shift (Tart). You can easily go very neutral with the browns, but I would say this is mostly a palette for light and fun spring looks.

And as usual, pigmentation is definitely there! Juvia’s Place metallic shades are so buttery and rich it is almost unbelievable. One of my all time favorite formulas of eyeshadows, and they do not disappoint in this palette either!

The matte shades form Juvia’s Place are also generally good quality, but one thing I notice about them is that they usually appear more pale on the eyes than in the pan. If you look at these swatches you can see that the browns in the upper left corner (Chocolat) looks fairly dark, but after building up the swatch it did not look as dark. Same with the magenta shade in the center (Custard). It looks way more vivid in the pan than it does on the swatch or on the eyes. The light brown in the bottom left corner I had a hard time to get to show up at all. So it works as a barely there transition shade, but I do wish it had the same color as in the pan, because I am quite pale and if it does not show up well on me during winter, then I think it will be too light for medium skintones.

I usually find that Juvia’s Place mattes needs some build up to look as bright as they do in the pan, but this time I could not build them up as much as I would want. I prefer to get the shade I can see in the pan, and not a paler version of me, so unfortunately that is a bit of a drawback for me. They are very smooth and blendable though, so they have nice texture and are easy to work with, they are just much less intense than anticipated.

The metallics on the other hand are exceptional and makes the whole palette still well worth picking up. The green (Macarons) is the shade that I was most drawn to, and it is beyong gorgeous and just the way I want it to be. Also the silver metallic (Mont Blanc) impressed me. Even though I have silver metallics and shimmers from before I don’t have anything as rich as this one.

The duochrome also deserves a mention with it being the most unique shade in the palette. It looks like a pale shimmery pink with a lilac duochrome shift, but if you layer it over a black shadow you get a dark lavender shimmer that is absolutely gorgeous (and quite surprising because I expected it to be a lot more pink).

So even though the mattes are not exactly where I want them to be, the stunning metallics and unique duochrome and reasonable price tag still makes this well worth picking up in my opinion.

It also is a nice collection piece since the color story and packaging are both beautiful and one-of-a-kind.

I would pick it up again!
