Review: MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinish – Whisper Of Gilt!

I finally got my hands on the oh so famous “Whisper of Gilt” shade by MAC. It.s been a part of a couple limited edition releases and the shade has been raved about for years. I have always wanted it, partly out of curiosity, partly out of the fact that I love a good gold highlighter.

IMG_20180815_115750_055.jpg

I finally got my hands on this in the Extra Dimension Skinfinish version. Whenever it’s been a part of a limited edition release it has sold out before i could say “Pancakes!”. It  seems like everyone want this, and it’s become a cult product for MAC. But, this time it’s back for good, and is now a part of their permanent Extra Dimension Skinfinish line. Isn’t that fantastic news? I sure think so!

IMG_20180815_115809_436.jpg

So, is it worth it’s cult status? Well, an intense gold metallic highlighter that would fit a large range of skintones with a buttery smooth formula….YES! It’s a great highlighter and if you are into golden highlights this is for sure worth an extra look. Maybe not as exclusive as it once was, and maybe it now lacks a bit of that exclusive rare feel to it, but everyone should have a chance to try this beauty.

IMG_20180815_115855_706.jpg

It’s not to much more to say really. The formula is great, the shade is great, and the rest is classic MAC. The packaging is their standard black compact with clear lid.

IMG_20180815_115830_401.jpg

For the price tag of 34 $ it’s not the cheapest one on the market for sure, and if you are on a budget there are plenty of other golden highlighters to choose one, you should not feel it’s necessary to pick up this exact one because to be fair, a golden shade is not that unique. And if you want a cheap alternative the Kiko Long Lasting Wet & Dry Use Eyeshadow in the shade 208 is a spot on dupe for only 7.90 $. But, if you are a MAC collector this is for sure a nice piece to add to your collection!

Throwback Thursday Makeup Look – MAC Single Shadows!

I figured it was time to pull out those old MAC palettes again with my collection of single shadows.

I remember how big MAC eyeshadows used to be. Back in 2009 when I first started looking at makeup videos on YouTube, Mac eyeshadows were featured in every single makeup tutorial. People didn’t have a bunch of palettes, and there were no such thing as PR for YouTubers so people sat there with their well loved and much used MAC eyeshadows. Having a big MAC eyeshadow collection was the big eyeshadow dream. There were tons of videos with them as well “Top 10 Mac Shadows”, “The best colorful MAC shadows”, “My MAC eyeshadow collection” and so on. They were so much in focus and MAC single pans were the big thing to collect. Funny thing is, then they cost twice as much as they do today! The price was bumped down when MAC got some serious competition, mainly from MakeupGeek to begin with but a lot of brands popped up and made cheaper single pan shadows of good quality, so MAC just could not keep the 12$ price-tag on them.

IMG_20180709_222222_078.jpg

They were just so iconic, and I still remember how excited I was when I got my first MAC shadow (It was Embark). My collection has grown since then, but I rarely use my MAC shadows, which is such a shame because I have both colors and neutrals suitable for so many different things. As I always say in these posts, I need to use them more!

Today I went for something colorful. Are you surprised?

IMG_20180709_222631_962.jpg

  • MAC Eyeshadows – Brulé, Kid, Shroom, Electric Eel, Lucky Green, Tilt, Goldenrod, Three Ring Yellow, DF7, Nocturnal, Nehru.
  • Chanel Le Kôhl Crayon – Blanc.
  • Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade – Medium Brown.
  • Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24 H – Black.
  • Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
  • Zoeva Brow Spectrum – Bro30, Bro70.
  • House Of Lashes – Noir Fairy Light.

MAC eyeshadows really are nice to work with. Not as highly pigmented as we have seen much of in later years, and far more hard pressed than what’s been popular lately, but the quality is good. I feel inspired to tidy up my MAC palettes now, buy those extra inserts I have postponed for years, adding some fun shades to my collection and making the palettes a bit more streamlined. Well, wish me luck!

Do you collect MAC eyeshadows? What are your staples that you thing I should pick up? Let me know in the comments!

Throwback Thursday Makeup Look – MAC A Tartan Tale: 6 Twist of Tartan!

I went all the way back to a limited edition release from MAC in 2010 to create this look.

IMG_20180328_220636_859.jpg

This 6 Twist of Tartan eyeshadow palette from MAC A Tartan Tale collection has been used….once. That is a shame, but to be honest I felt that the colors were not that cohesive and did not work that well together so I found it hard to actually create a full look with it.

IMG_20180328_220712_703.jpg

But I guess the whole point with this Throwback Thursday themed makeup looks are to dig out old palettes that you for one reason or the other don’t use. With this palette the reason for not using it was mainly because I felt like I could not put together many looks with this palette alone. So I did that, I made a makeuplook using only this palette, and with every single shade. And this is what it looked like:

IMG_20180328_220529_041.jpg

  • MAC 6 Twists of Tartan – Lady’s Prance, Rolled Gold, High Spirits, Vainglorious, Set To Dance, Bows & Curtseys.
  • Maybelline Master Drama Kohl Pencil – Ultra Black.
  • Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
  • Zoeva Brow Spectrum – Bro10, Bro50.
  • Eylure Definition Lashes 121.

It kind of turns out that the colors of the palette was quite cohesive after all, I just did not have the skilled eyes to see it. They do fit quite nicely together in a look. I don’t know if I even ever used navy, red and green together in a look but I actually think it works. Kind of feels like I learned a new color combination that I don’t think I would have chosen to put together myself.

IMG_20180328_220313_472.jpg

Now that I used it a bit I feel like there are some nice combinations here I have completely missed out on before. Those greens would be a nice smoky green look, and the navy and gold could be a nice halo eye. I think I will have to pull this out again sometime soon, because now I want to see more of that it can do. Throwback Thursday for the win here! This is exactly what I want, to get some inspiration to get some use out of my older stuff.

My Makeup Collection 2018 – Lipsticks!

Time to have a look at my traditional bullet lipsticks! I already posted my liquid lipstick collection so if you are interested in those just have a look here.

But today it is all about bullets, and I want to start off with something iconic, namely my MAC lipstick collection!

  • MAC Lipstick – Viva Glam I.

I am still a huge fan of the MAC lipstick formula, and add pieces to my collection here and there. They used to be very big some years ago, back when MAC was a much bigger thing than it is now. Not that they are small by any means, we just have more options now. I like to talk about makeup “in the old days” and sounding like I am 80 years old. That is only my mental age, in reality I am much younger. Anyway, loved these back then, still do!

These were so highly treasured and brings back some very fond memories. I haven’t used them in a long time now, and I really should (as always).

  • The Balm Read My Lips Lipstick – Wanted.
  • KIKO Mango Butter Lipstick – 13 Natural Pink.

As usual I like to count and keep track and the amount of lipsticks are 97. I don’t think that is too bad, and I expect 2 of them to be come through my project pan 2018. I also expect a lot more to be added due to my very eager shopping and collector urges. I can already tell I got 5 of Colourpops Luxe Lipsticks on their way, and I am sure they won’t be the only ones. I am still a firm believer that you can never have too many nudes, and I also love a good red!

Do we have any lipstick shades in common?

XOXO
