Top 3 High End Brands in 2018!

You may have seen my top three affordable brands of 2018 recently, and it’s about time we get on to the high-end brands I have been loving the most in 2018 (There will also be a top 3 luxury brands too). The brands I put in the ranking must be brands I have been purchasing new items from and really been using and loving the past year. I do know brands that I like equally good as some of these, but I may not have picked any products from the brand (or just very few) the past year. I also have some brands that I really really like the products of, but since I only have maybe a few products I don’t think I know them well enough to put them in a ranking like this. But, here are the top three selected in no particular order!

MAC Cosmetics: What an amazing cult makeup brand this is! I have always loved MAC as a brand but I feel I got a bit back to the brand this year. I got plenty of new MAC makeup items. I have grown my single pan collection, grabbed some new nice lipsticks and blushes and tried out a few more of their products. They really have everything you could need in their line and it’s such a cult classic brand that I just could not give them a mention. Their lipsticks are among my most used bullet lipsticks.

I remember back a decade that MAC was THE brand to own. Everyone with an interest in makeup collected their single pans, and people went crazy with all the limited edition releases. Back then I can’t think of another brand with such a gigantic line of products. Even though MAC is a great brand and still much loved, I don’t feel it is the one and only brand to own anymore. There are too much makeup brands and too many choices out there now. But they are and always will be a favorite of mine. A cult classic brand for sure!

Smashbox: This one was an easy pick too. I never really used Smashbox that much until the last couple of years. I picked up a few items here and there and generally speaking I am very happy with how the products perform. I am not the biggest fan of their eyeshadow formula, but so many of the other things I’ve tried have been such great hits that this brands deserve a spot on this list even though their eyeshadow formula is far from my favorite one. Smashbox are off course famous for their primers, which I use and love, but the stand out item for me must be the Always On Liquid Lipsticks that are simply fantastic! I am also loving their Halo powder.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics: I have been a fan of their liquid lipsticks for such a long time now. Actually, since I tried them for the first time they have been my very favorite dry down liquid lipsticks. Only matched by the Smashbox Always On. I do have to say though that Jeffree Star has a much more tempting color selection than what Smashbox does offer. I am also a fan of the JS eyeshadow palettes. Always with unique color stories and different and daring packaging! For the most part I own liquid lipsticks and eyeshadows from the brand, but I know there is a lot in store for us in 2019 and I am sure there will be a lot of great products released. I heard rumors that there will be a concealer soon, and I am all for that!

If you had to pick some favorite high-end brands what would you pick? What have you been loving in 2018?

And remember that I am also on Instagram!

Makeup Favorites – October 2018!

Time to do a round up of favorites of the past month. I love doing these posts because it’s so much fun to share the really good stuff with you. The products are few this month, but the reason is that I won’t ever put a product in these posts unless I have been using them a lot during the past month. So my favorites will always be a selection of the very much loved products. So only the really great stuff I can stand by will be mentioned. I have to say I have tried many things that will potentially will be in future favorites post because I’ve stumbled upon so much fun stuff. But today we talk about the well used stuff!

The first thing I want to talk about really impressed me. And that is BH Cosmetics Life Is A Festival Palette. I know so many have been raving about this, but I have tried 4 BH Cosmetics palettes before, and three of them were of such mediocre quality that I didn’t care to keep them in my collection, but this palette made me change my mind about the brand. Maybe they have really improved their eyeshadow game. I think there is no bad shade in this palette. The overall quality is really good, but what really impressed me was the bright matte shades. The blue could possibly be one of my very best blue mattes. It’s absolutely exceptional. Super pigmented, super blend-able and so creamy and smooth. If you want to try one palette by BH Cosmetics then try this and be amazed because this is absolutely fantastic and so much fun to play with. The price is also excellent. You can’t go wrong with this!

A big lash favorite this month have been House Of Lashes Iconic. I know this is a classic that so many people love, and it should not be any news for you that these are a well loved lash style. I have worn out a pair in October and I already got a new one. The style is so good for so many looks and gives a very flattering cat-eye effect. At the same time they are not to dense so it shows the eyeshadow very well instead of hiding your work like other more dramatic styles can easily do. These just look so flattering, and so far this is absolutely my favorite style form House of Lashes!

Mac Mineralize Skinfinish in “Nuanced”. This is a nice glowy blush with 4 different shades that you can either mix together of just focus on one of the shades. It’s softly pigmented but gives a really nice glow. I have been pairing it with my Glominerals blush in “Papaya” which is in my project pan to make it more glowy, but it can also be used on its own and gives a soft flush of color but a nice glowy cheek. It does not have any shimmer or glitter but gives just the right amount of radiance to the skin.

Two of my KissMe Liquid Lipsticks from this months bundle are already favorites of mine and I have been reaching for them so much. Apple Cider is a beautiful muted red and has been my go-to for parties and evenings. Pumpkin Spice Latte is a stunning everyday orange that I’ve also reached for a lot. Who would have thought a orange would become my favorite lipstick? I didn’t for sure! And the formula is very comfortable and long lasting.

The Essence Pure Nude Highlighter in “Be my Highlight” has been one of my monthly favorites before. I also wrote a full review of the highlighter that you can read here if you want. Even though I have already mentioned this in a favorites before, I just can’t help but mentioning it again when I used it almost every single day all throughout October. It gives such an amazing glow.

That’s actually everything for now. Even though my list of favorites is not that high, the few ones I have I highly recommend!

What have your favorites been this past month?

Throwback Thursday Makeup Look – MAC A Tartan Tale: 6 Twist of Tartan!

I went all the way back to a limited edition release from MAC in 2010 to create this look.

This 6 Twist of Tartan eyeshadow palette from MAC A Tartan Tale collection has been used….once. That is a shame, but to be honest I felt that the colors were not that cohesive and did not work that well together so I found it hard to actually create a full look with it.

But I guess the whole point with this Throwback Thursday themed makeup looks are to dig out old palettes that you for one reason or the other don’t use. With this palette the reason for not using it was mainly because I felt like I could not put together many looks with this palette alone. So I did that, I made a makeuplook using only this palette, and with every single shade. And this is what it looked like:

  • MAC 6 Twists of Tartan – Lady’s Prance, Rolled Gold, High Spirits, Vainglorious, Set To Dance, Bows & Curtseys.
  • Maybelline Master Drama Kohl Pencil – Ultra Black.
  • Maybelline Total Temptation Mascara.
  • Zoeva Brow Spectrum – Bro10, Bro50.
  • Eylure Definition Lashes 121.

It kind of turns out that the colors of the palette was quite cohesive after all, I just did not have the skilled eyes to see it. They do fit quite nicely together in a look. I don’t know if I even ever used navy, red and green together in a look but I actually think it works. Kind of feels like I learned a new color combination that I don’t think I would have chosen to put together myself.

Now that I used it a bit I feel like there are some nice combinations here I have completely missed out on before. Those greens would be a nice smoky green look, and the navy and gold could be a nice halo eye. I think I will have to pull this out again sometime soon, because now I want to see more of that it can do. Throwback Thursday for the win here! This is exactly what I want, to get some inspiration to get some use out of my older stuff.

My Makeup Collection 2018: Eyeshadow Pans!

Here comes another one of the posts featuring parts of my makeup collection. I already posted a blog post about my small eyeshadow palette collection and you can have a look at it here. If you are more into blushes I also got a collection post featuring all my blush-goodies as well.

But today it is all about those small little pans so many of us love to collect and put into different magnetic palettes. I have been collecting on and of for over 10 years (gasp!). Sometimes it takes years between every time I pick up something new, and other times, like when Colourpop had buy 1 get 1 free I snagged 10.

Considering how many years I’ve collected I don’t really have that many though. Off course some of them had to be thrown because they are old, but this is a result of years of gabbing a shade here and there.

Lets take them by brand to make it a bit easier.

Makeupgeek was like sent from heaven when they first launched. Back then MAC was the one and only brand, but the cost of one shade was actually almost double the cost of what they are today. That’s why so many got over excited when MakeupGeek launced amazing single pans for only 6$ each!

I remember MakeupGeek was the first brand I really fell in love with, and it has a special place in my heart because I have been able to follow the brand since the very beginning. So these shadows will always have a special sentimental value to me. I don’t pick up new shades that often, I think I picked up maybe 6 shades through 2017. But, I am sure this collection will keep growing.

Nabla Cosmetics:

This brand was a new discovery last year. It is a nice affordable Italian indie brand with a small but nice line of makeup. They have larger sized pans than say Colourpop, MakeupGeek and MAC, so they have their own magnetic palette that fits 12 or 6 shades each.

These shadows are good quality, and they even have some excellent mattes. Fahrenheit has been a big favorite since I got it and Caramel and Paprika is not far behind!

BeautyBay recently started stocking these so I am very happy about having them more available. I consider the perk “free shipping” as being more available.

Thes shadows are so good, and seem to be adored by so many professionals. I decided to start my Inglot collection many years ago, bought a small bunch, and the forgot about them. I really want to expand this collection throughout this year. Secretly I have been having a goal of keeping them in 20-pan palettes with one palette with blues and greens, one with pinks and oranges, one with browns and so on.

Maybe I will get the chance to work a bit on this part of my collection. But so far, this is what I have:

MAC Cosmetics:

Finally, the iconic MAC pans. If you where into makeup 10 + years ago and saw the early beginning of makeup-youtubers you remember that this was THE eyeshadows  to use, own and collect.

This is also a collection I want to expand, and my goal is to get 4 palettes filled with shadows (that makes 15 in each with the inserts).

I got my first finished palette already. I now just need some inserts and pick and choose the right colors to compliment the rest I own. I would be so happy for suggestions!

I want one 15-palette with blue and greens, and one palette with yellow, orange, pink, purple and reds. So I miss 5 in the blue/green and 5 in the other (Fig 1. and Beauty Marked form the next picture would be in a purple/pink/orange palette).

Finally, I want to make one more palettes with neutral and brown tones. Here I lack 7 shades.

So to complete my collection I need 5 shades with blue or green tones, 5 shades that are either pink, red, purple, orange or pink. Finally I would need 7 more shades in the brown/neutral shade range. If you see any shades I am missing please leave them in the comments! I would love to get some feedback, so maybe I can complete my MAC collection during 2018.

What brand has your favorite pan shadows?
