Makeup Revolution Jewel Collection Opulent Eyeshadow Palette – Review & Swatches!

This is the second palette I review from the Makeup Revolution Jewel Collection that they released just before Christmas. I had to pick up all the three palettes from the collection, mainly because of the beautiful packaging.

IMG_20190327_173956_006.jpg

I mean, just look at this gorgeous frozen silver outer packaging. The palette has some weight to it too, so it feels and looks more expensive than it is. Inside you get a very decent mirror, and I was also very happy to see that the names of the eyeshadows are written in the palette. Usually Makeup Revolution just give you one of those plastic inserts, or have the names or numbers written on a sticker on the backside of the palette, but this packaging seems a bit more thorough. Still the price is only 10 £.

IMG_20190327_173844_764.jpg

Inside you get 6 large eyeshadow pans of metallic foiled eyeshadows, and 14 smaller pans with a mixture of mattes and shimmers. The colors are much more cool-toned than the other two palettes that are very warm and golden. This one has pinks, mauves and greys in addition to a few browns, so you do get a nice cool-toned palette here, which I think is great. I love warm toned eyeshadow palettes but they are so common and so plentiful in my collection, that a cool-toned palette with wearable neutrals always feels like adding something new to my collection.

IMG_20190327_174025_709.jpg

I find the quality of this eyeshadow palette to be close to identical to Deluxe, which is the first of these three palettes I reviewed. The top row of 6 foiled shadows are incredible. They are so soft and buttery they feel more like a cream than a powder, the pigmentation is so intensely rich I am amazed. This top row is worth the whole palette for me! They are just mindblowingly good!

IMG_20190327_173825_147.jpg

The two rows of smaller eyeshadow pans are more of “regular” quality if you will. They have medium pigmentation and does the job, but they are very unlikely to be the best eyeshadows you have. The mattes are good, but not great. The shimmers are more of a satin finish than a shimmer really, but some are more shiny than others. That meaning that some of these shades can be used in the crease, even though they are not matte because they are much softer and not very reflective. These 14 smaller pan are kind of like a decent-for-the-price and gets-the-job-done-withouth-blowing-your-mind kind of quality. But the top row with 6 foiled pieces of goodness are the crown jewels of this palette and makes it well worth picking up.

IMG_20190327_173925_879.jpg

I do think though that the composition of this palette is better than Deluxe. Deluxe did only have 2 matte eyeshadows, while this one has 6 of different depths. In addition to that some of the satin shades can work similarly to a matte, and with that I mean that they can be used in the crease. So if you were thinking about picking up any of these three palettes, Opulent would be your best option if you wanted mainly cool-tones. And not to spoil the review of Gilded that will be posted later on, but that would be my pick if I wanted one of them but preferred a cool toned look.

Overall these palettes seem very similar in quality, and also packaging. Even though the 14 small pans are decent but nothing more, the incredible foiled at the top makes up for it, and overall makes this a palette well worth the price. Opulent is definitely the one to go for if you are a bit tired of all those warm neutral palettes, because you can get some really pretty grey, taupe, pink or berry looks from this palette.

This one gets a thumbs up from me, because I am so excited about having such stunning foiled shades for a reasonable price in my collection. Besides the gorgeous packaging don’t hurt either!

Without spoiling too much of Wednesdays review this palette is fantastic! I have already featured this palette in one of my monthly favorites so I guess there is no secret what I think about it anyways. I just had so much fun with all the different colors, and the palette proved itself to be both versatile and of great quality. I really hope to see more like this from BH Cosmetics in the future!

Review: L’Oreal Unlimited Mascara!

After the success story with L’Oreal Paradise Extatic (or Lash Paradise as you know it in US) my interest in L’Oreal mascaras reach a high peak. I have been loving the Paradise Extatic and I am just about to pick up my third tube!

So when this odd looking think was released I knew I had to give it a go. The packaging is so strange for being a mascara. It looks more like a big liquid liner. It’s a bit bulky if you want to keep it in a small makeup bag, but you have to give them credit for thinking new right?

The wand can be bent, which I did not find useful at all. It may just be because I have been applying mascara with a normal straight wand all my life and that I am just not used to it. Someone else would probably enjoy this feature, but if you are like me, there is a small plastic piece on the want that prevents it from bending, so you can just do like me and keep it on.

The applicator wand is your typical rubber wand. I don’t mind a rubber wand but I tend to prefer a want with bristles instead. This one does the job nicely and coats the lashes evenly. I could also easily apply the product to my lower lashes with this wand.

This is a one coat kind of mascara for me. In my opinion this gives more volume and thicker lashes instead of that fluffy feathery look. One coat gives enough drama for me, and I find that with two coats the mascara can get a bit clumpy. Not a problem though since I feel like I get enough lash in one coat anyway.

It does naturally also give you longer lashes, but I would say that this is more of a thickening mascara. The color is also nice and black.

I found that this lasted well on me through out the day without smudging or having any fallout. It stay put nicely, you loose a bit of lift through the day, but what mascara does that not happen to?

If you are into a more feathery and natural look I am not sure this would be your best choice (Lancôme Volume-à-Porter is great for that purpose) but if you want some Black voluminous lashes in one coat than this could be worth a try. I think it’s actually a bit similar to Maybelline Total Temptation mascara, just a tad more intense.

I actually think I will repurchase this one again!

Did you try this weird looking thing? What are your opinion about it?

Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette – Review!

IMG_20171110_175443_446.jpg

I bet I was not the only one who got interested in this palette when Tati (YouTube beauty guru) raved about this. I mean, when someone who test out almost every product there is says it is good then there may be something to it right? With a price point of around 8-9£ you don’t have a lot to loose trying it so I clicked one home from Tambeauty to test for myself.

The packaging is, as expected, a bit cheap. Just simple black plastic case. It used to have a logo on the lid, but that rubbed of in no time. You know, like we are all used to from Colourpops liquid or satin lips packaging. No biggie, there is a lot of product for little money. At least it is not that see through plastic lid that gets full off scratches and look decades old just from hanging around with its makeup friends in your makeup bag. That would be worse! The palette does have a nice mirror tough, so that is a plus.

IMG_20171110_175533_068.jpg

This palette is very unusual, because I actually found every shade to be useful! Normally there are at least a few powders in a palette like this that I won’t use but that is not the case with this one. I used, and enjoyed every single shade! Let me walk you through them one by one:

1.Top row – Pink toned brightening/setting powder: Nice to use as a soft brightening powder on my forehead, nose and chin. A bit powdery if I use it as an all over setting powder.

2. Top row – Banana powder: Works well as a under-eye setting powder.

3.Top row – Soft Highlighter: Nice warm and work- friendly highlighter that can be buildt up for medium intensity. Gives a beautiful glow and is great for a natural highlight.

4. Top row – Baked highlighter: This pale icy highlighter is blinding! A little goes a long way. This can really be as intense as you want it, and add some fix+ and you have a shimmery almost white eyeshadow!

1. Bottom row – Warm medium toned bronzer: This one is really easy to apply, and goes on very easily. I tad dry, but it is not hard to apply evenly on my skin.

2. Bottom row – Cool toned contour: Nice contour powder. Not too cool, not too ashy, not to dark (for me). Just a really nice contour powder.

3. Bottom row – Warm medium toned bronzer: I think this is very similar to the other bronzer shade. I would have preferred it if they put in maybe a lighter bronzer shade instead.

4. Bottom row – MAGIC!

The last shade I want to talk a bit more about, because this is my absolute favorite in the whole palette. A big surprise for me because when I looked at it to begin with I didn’t really know what it was or what I was supposed to use it for. It looks too dark to be a powder, not shimmery enough to be a highlighter, and too light to be a bronzer. But this is healthy glow-from-within-in-a-pan (I know, super hard to guess just by looking at it). It is too discreet to be a highlighter, but I used a bigger powder brush and dusted this over my forehead, down the bridge of my nose, cheeks and chin and it makes the most beautiful glow to the skin. It makes you just look healthy and amazing. I really with they had something similar to this in a single pan because I would stock up on it in a heartbeat!

IMG_20171110_174947_441.jpg

On the picture above you see all the highlighter shades swatched on my fingers, including the glow-from-within-but-not-really-a-highlighter-shade.

IMG_20171110_175018_601.jpg

I guess you can tell already, but I am really happy I gave this palette a chance! It was featured in my October monthly favorites as well so it was much used and much loved throughout the whole month (you can read the full favorites post here).

If you are looking for a contouring powder this is really something I would recommend. It is not just good for the price, it is just hands-down a great product!
