Review: Anastasia Dream Glowkit – Dream or Nightmare?

I really like Anastasia as a brand, and I have plenty of great products from the brand that I really appreciate. I also got several different glowkits. For me these have been overall good, but not all of them have reached up to the levels of being a favorites palette. I really really like the Sundipped palette for instance, but the Nicole Guerrero glowkit was a bit too glittery to my taste. So a bit of a hit and miss journey.

The palettes are fun to collect though, and I decided to add the Dream Glowkit to my collection just based on other peoples swatches and reviews. It looks like an extraterrestrial intense glow in unique but still wearable colors. So I went to the store to pick it up without even opening the palette to swatch the shades myself. Big mistake!

I mean, on swatches online they look stunning, and I think I went a bit blind on all the ravings about this palette and just gambled on it. That’s why I was so surprised to see that these highlighters are very glittery. We all got own opinions and taste about that. If you think glitter in highlighter is fine, then go rock it! But I prefer the ones without glitter. I can handle a bit of glitter if it’s very fine milled, but it’s unfortunately quite chunky in this palette.

But, you should never judge a book by it’s cover. Or in this case your should never judge a makeup product without trying it on the skin. So I did! I was hoping to myself that if I took a dense brush and buffed it into the skin the glitter would be buffed away and I would be left with those nice glowing interesting shades, but I quickly realized that the glitter was there to stay. And I have to admit, even though I am not a big fan of glitter that it looked kind of cool. Maybe not for me, I am 31 years old and not cool at all, but I could see how someone else could totally rock it and look awesome. I decided to try to be cool and rock it myself for a day. Unfortunately, that nice glittery highlight was not just on my cheekbones after a couple of hours. I found it all over my cheeks, my nose, even my forehead. Not the look I was hoping for!

I mean, the powders are pretty, just not on my cheekbones. I know I can use them as eyeshadows or inner corner highlighters as well, and if I try to get some use out of it that’s probably how I will use it. It was just not all what I was hoping for. And to be honest, with more than 1000 eyeshadows to choose from (rough estimate, I did not actually count) I just don’t see myself reaching for a highlighter palette when doing my eyes.

For me, unfortunately, this was not a dream. And I’ve now learned the expensive way to always always always swatch Anastasia glow kits.

What about you? Do you have it? Do you love it? Let me know in the comments!

XOXO

  1. Thank you for sharing your honest opinions on this! 😊 I love ABH, but I haven’t been a big fan of their more pigmented highlighters for this reason. I prefer highlights that give a more glossy finish as opposed to a metallic or glittery finish.

Oh that is a pitty, that it did not work for you. Personally I really love glittery highlights once in a while, but I totally get when people do not want that for themselves. But if it is the kind of glittery highlight that starts to be everywhere after a while that is not pretty at all! If I run into a highlighter like that it usually helps if I put a very subtle cream highlight under the glittery one and then it usually sticks. But I can imagine, that if you are not even into glittery highlights, that you dont want to do that effort for that palette. Well, maybe the next glow kit will be more up your alley again πŸ™‚
